WHAT ARE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS?

"Today millions of children return to an empty home after school. When the bell rings, the anxiety for parents often just begins. In response to this pressing concern, many communities have created after school programs to keep children and youth out of trouble and engageed in activities that help them learn".
(Safe and Smart Schools:US Department of Education)

After School Programs strive to enrich and serve communities. The first priority of After School Programs are to keep kids safe and out of trouble. The majority of juvenile crime occurs during after school hours. Research has shown that After School Programs decrease the number of juvenile crime incidents in the community. After School Programs accomplish this by keeping kids active and engaged in academics, in athletics, and in the community.
